Winter Warrior

Picking the right time to launch is a vital component to a successful campaign. A perfect example is the 2014 Nissan Rogue “Winter Warrior” commercial by TBWA, Canada, released January 10th, on the heels of the Polar Vortex, during which we experienced unusually low temperatures and large amounts of snow.

The commercial highlights the car’s ability to handle well in the snow, annihilating evil snow men and rescuing a stranded family who’s car does not start during the attack.

It’s always good to have a “hero” during winter time.

Will paper become obsolete in the digital age?

We grew up doing everything with pencil and paper. Once we were supported by a whole institution of print and publishing from newspaper to love letters. Now, most of these is vanishing, one after another.

Just about every aspect of a life can be accomplished with an electronic device, but even in the digital age there is still a need for paper – at some times more than others.

We would like to thank the Scott company for taking care of business since 1890.

Get Back to Work

The holidays are over, the new year is getting into the swing of things and now that the kids have gone back to school it’s time to get back to work.

Atlassian, the company which claims to help teams of all sizes track and share everything, work smarter, and create better software together, created a fun info graphic depicting the time wasted at the office going through emails, scheduling and rescheduling meetings or just plain switching tasks.

Waste-of-Time

In case you have to be retrained or need a break from the daily grind already, check out the site for your self: atlassian.com/time-wasting-at-work-infographic

“Merry Christmas to All and to All a Good Flight”

With the holiday season in full swing, there is one company that sure knows what it means to get in the holiday spirit. In a new viral video making the rounds on social media, Canadian airline WestJet treats unsuspecting passengers to a little holiday cheer.

While waiting to board their flights, travelers told a virtual Santa Claus what was on their Christmas wishlist. Once they were on their planes, WestJet employees went to work gathering presents. When the passengers reached their destination, they were greeted with more than just their luggage at baggage claim. One by one down the conveyor belt came individually wrapped presents for each traveler.

The events were caught on hidden camera and turned into a video with a “Night Before Christmas” narration.

You can watch the heartwarming video here:

SIX TOP TIPS

There's no place like home for the holidays

1 Give Thanks
People will remember your kindness. Thank anyone who refers business to you with a personalized thank you card.

2 Make it Simple
If your product or service saves time or makes life easier, that may be more important to some customers than saving money.

3 Spread Holiday Cheer
Holidays are the perfect time to launch a lighthearted seasonal campaign to reward and connect with your current customers.

4 Deck the Halls
Change your website to reflect the season and decorate your site just like you would decorate your own storefront.

5 Bring’ em back for more
People return to sites for new information, bring back visitors and motivate them to spread the word with new content. If there are no new products lined up, provide industry updates, trends and forecasts.

6˚ Get Creative
To be appreciated and maybe even remembered, your holiday card must stand out in some way from the dozens of other generic and oh-so-forgettable cards.

Give your customers more than they expected. Good service generally goes unnoticed and may not receive comment — exceptional service does. What small thing can you do that will surprise customers without additional cost to the company?

Elephants are red, Donkeys are blue

In honor of elections occurring across the country today, we thought we would take a look at colors associated with political parties.

While the donkey and elephant had been associated with Democrats and Republicans respectively since the 1870’s, it was not until 1976, when NBC graphics department debuted its first election map on the air, with bulbs that turned red for Carter-won states (Democratic), and blue for Ford (Republican).

After the 2000 election, the color red became associated with the Republican Party and blue symbolic for the Democrats. Thus, red and blue became fixed in the media and in many people’s minds, despite the fact that no “official” color choices had been made by the parties.

Political associations of colors, used to represent either officially or unofficially a political party, may vary from country to country.

A few samples of colors and affiliations are:

  • Black is primarily associated with anarchism
  • Grey is often used to represent Independent politicians
  • Red has widely been associated by the mass media with the Republican Party, despite the fact that the Republican Party is a conservative-leaning party
  • Blue is usually associated with conservative parties
  • Green is for green politics and environmentalist movements worldwide
  • Orange is the traditional color of the Christian democrats
  • White today is mainly linked to pacifism
  • Yellow is most commonly associated with liberalism in Europe

Embracing Potty Humor

Too often I find myself waiting for the “Skip Ad” button to appear, while watching YouTube. Not so with “Girl’s Don’t Poo.” Not only did I watch the whole 2 minute infomercial, I watched it a second time.

Poo Pourri takes potty humor to a whole new level, by using a classy redhead with a british accent, to talk about your business like it’s nobodies business. While brands traditionally shy away from this risqué type of advertisements, Poo Pourri is embracing it and successfully so. After just a little over a month the video had over 16 million views on YouTube and sold over 4 million bottles in just one year.
